Breast Reduction
Breast reduction can help you shed what’s weighing you down
Patients who undergo breast reduction surgery are often seeking relief from the physical symptoms caused by the excessive weight of their large breasts. However, the benefits of a breast reduction are NOT limited to relief from neck and back pain. They also include a significant improvement in breast size and shape, as breasts are always “lifted” during the procedure. Smaller, more perky breasts lead to improved body proportion and can make it easier to find clothing that fits. Breast reductions typically have high patient satisfaction rates because they address both functional (symptoms of heavy breasts) and aesthetic concerns.
The right candidate for breast reduction
A good candidate for a breast reduction is someone whose breasts are too large in proportion to their body frame, are too heavy and cause neck, shoulder, and back pain, or are uneven. Other reasons for a breast reduction include sagging breasts with nipples that are too low or point downwards, skin irritation beneath the breasts, and discomfort associated with bra wear. These symptoms often restrict physical activity and cause women to be self-conscious about the size or appearance of their breasts. How is a breast reduction performed?
A breast reduction surgery has two important components: functional and aesthetic. The functional aspect reduces the size and weight of the breasts, while the cosmetic aspect involved lifting the breasts to achieve a nice, perky shape. The procedure takes about one and a half to two hours to complete and encompasses several steps :After achieving an aesthetically pleasing, symmetric result, we close the incisions with absorbable stitches that are placed deep to the skin, leaving only a fine line at the incision sites. At the end of the operation, we place a gauze dressing over the patients’ breasts.
Types of anesthesia used in breast reduction surgery
Clinique K is equipped with state of the art anesthesia technology to perform breast reductions either under general anesthesia (where the patient is completely asleep). This technique can be performed without harm, and patients are monitored throughout the procedure to ensure their safety.Days following a breast reduction and recovery time
After waking up from surgery you will spend a couple of hours in the recovery room. Once you are comfortable and ready, you are sent home (accompanied by a friend or family member) with pain medication and antibiotics to take as needed. Our staff at Clinique K will give you detailed post-operative instructions prior to going home. We recommend you have someone look after you for the first one to two days following surgery. You may experience discomfort and swelling of your breasts for about one week. Most patients return to work after four to five days provided there is no strenuous activity or heavy lifting. Exercise and heavy lifting can resume after four weeks.
